After the diet: how to maintain your ideal weight?
At the Healthy Weight Loss Clinic, we have helped hundreds of women and men from all over Quebec lose weight quickly thanks to diets that feature, among other things, healthy meals enriched with high-quality proteins. In this article, we explain how not to regain the pounds lost after a diet.
Advice no 1: Ban menus that are too low in calories
Are you proud of your new weight and want to keep it? We understand: after all, you worked hard to get there! Now, don't limit yourself to a low-calorie diet (only vegetables and water, for example). The reason? Your body will think it's starving and will react by storing the smallest bits of energy that you ingest... which will make you gain weight!
Advice no 2: Eat regularly and do not skip meals.
To avoid regaining the weight lost after a diet, make sure to eat at set times and at regular intervals. Indeed, if you go long periods without eating, your metabolism will adjust to the state of deprivation and will slow down to retain the calories that you offer it. That said, respect your appetite and do not force yourself to eat if you are really not hungry!
Advice no 3: Avoid diets that alternate between restriction and permission.
Do you love junk food, but you wouldn't want to gain back the pounds you lost? In that case, you might be tempted to follow a diet where, for example, you have to fast on Fridays so you can eat whatever you want on Saturdays. However, "unbalanced" diets are extremely harmful, that is, perfect for gaining weight in the blink of an eye! That said, "cheating" once in a while won't ruin your efforts: it's all about moderation!
Advice no 4: Keep up your physical activity
Have you managed to lose weight quickly by following a diet and "working hard" at the gym? To maintain your new figure, it is in your best interest to keep moving. How? By doing an activity that you enjoy and by remembering that sport is inseparable from healthy weight management!
